San Jose is the third largest city in California, located in the Santa Clara Valley and the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area, where Silicon Valley is located. Once a small agricultural city, San Jose attracted many immigrants between the 1960s and 1990s, becoming the largest city in northern California and the capital of Santa Clara County.

San Jose was established on November 29, 1777, as the Spanish colonists' first colonial city in California. In 1850, California officially became a state of the country. After World War II, the urban population doubled to accommodate many veterans and their families and to cope with the rapid economic growth of the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1970s, San Jose attracted a large number of enterprises. In the 1980s, after 40 years of population growth and rapid development, San Jose surpassed the population of San Francisco.
